A Nice Little Saturday

If I played Frank in Old School, my line would definitely go something like:
“Well, um, actually a pretty nice little Saturday. I’m going on a run with friends, buying some run gear, eating dinner and drinking wine with runners, maybe lifting weights, I don’t know, I don’t know if I’ll have time.”
Saturday was running theme to the max, so pretty much the perfect day.
I kicked it off with a 7.5 mile run around the monuments with a couple of other girls. We ran it nice and slowly which felt good after my faster run on Friday. All three of us are former college athletes and it was hilarious how similar our experiences of burnout and then discovering new athletic loves were.
After the run, I had thought about adding on a couple of miles, but my legs were feeling pretty heavy so I decided the smart (shmart) decision would be to bag any more running, and instead walk the 2 miles to one of my local running stores.
TIP: If you are tempted to run more, do not pick a route to walk that goes right by your favorite running routes. You will be be thisclose to dropping your tote bag in the arms of the closest tourists and start doing hill sprints through the zoo.
Anyone else have a hard time spending less than 12 hours in a running store? I tried on every article of women’s clothing they had in stock and pestered every single one of the people working.
And trust me, I did not leave empty handed.
Please ignore the fact that I haven’t showered since at least two runs ago and my pants are on backwards. Lucikly, you don’t have to smell me or be seen in public with me, so I think we can still be friends.
I had evening plans to hang out with one my favorite local runner/triathlete/rockstars and knew if I was quick I could squeeze in a little lift session before heading to Katie’s house. So I packed my real clothes to change into (read: clean sweatpants) and headed to the gym to get wicked ‘uge.
Then it was time for the highlight of the day. Read: carb, wine, cupcake fiesta while geeking out over training and racing.
My kind of Saturday night.
We demolished the lasagna, an entire block of fresh parm (that’s kinda our thing), a couple platters of cupcakes, that entire bottle of Malbec AND
Who forgot to send me the memo that Godiva makes vodka? Chocolate raspberry vodka?! Because whoever made that fatal err is in Trouble with a capital T.
Katie and I did an impressive job on this bottle. If our racing skills are anything close to our ability to inhale carbs and good drinks: then steer clear of us on the race course.
Highlight of your weekend?
I know it’s going to be pretty tough to beat my day of running, run gear, lifting and eating cupcakes with other runners. But you can try. Oh wait, Katie has puppies. Boom.
