Saturday Morning Routine

When it comes to my weekend mornings, I am definitely a creature of habit.
I take advantage of the fact that the gym doesn’t open until 8am and sleep in later than any other morning of the week.
And as soon as I’m out of bed, it’s time to head to the gym to get sweating. Followed immediately by a trip to my favorite bagel shop.
But this morning, when I woke up (even later than usual) after a long night of beers, wine, vodka and pizza
I tried to mix up the routine and get bagels before the gym, but The Rocketship was having none of it.
He kept throwing around words like “reward bagels” and “you have to earn it, Emily” while I lay in bed, whining about the wine I consumed last night and my immediate need for an extra carbalicious bagel smothered in cream cheese.
In the end, The Rocketship triumphed and we went to the gym before the bakery.
And as much as I hate EVER being wrong, The Rocketship was right. It felt so good to start Saturday with a heavy sweat.
We did a 45 minute upper body workout. I’m getting a long ride in later today and have plans to hit the pool this afternoon, so I knew some strength training would be the best way to start the day.
We never hit the weights together, but it was awesome to have The Rocketship there to show me some new moves and correct my less than stellar form.
And after the gym? You’d better believe we did not stop, did not pass go, we proceeded immediately to the bagel mecca.
It’s a miracle this sucker made it home before I devoured it.
Now I’m waiting for the weather to get just a little bit nicer before I straddle Big Red for a long ride. I may brave snow, sleet and downpours while I’m getting my run on, but I’m a total wimp when it comes to biking. And if I can bike in 65 degree weather instead of 50 and windy, then you’d better believe I’m going to wait the extra hours to do that.
Are you a weekend creature of habit? Or do you mix it up on your Saturday mornings? It should be noted that my routine gets all kind of messed up when I have a race on the schedule, but that’s totally different and totally worth it.
