Back from the Brink

My apologies for complete and utter radio silence this week. I got sick on Monday and am blaming it on swimming in the bacteria pool of the Potomac…because when I’m mad that I can’t be sweating, it just seems like the right thing to do.
So as I’ve been plagued with unbearable headaches and feeling like a bulldozer played flatten the runner on my body, I’ve traded in the aero-position for the horizontal position, carbs for meds and spent the majority of my week not sweating.
Believe you me, I WANTED to be sweating but The Rocketship convinced me that pushing my body for subpar workouts would not be worth it if it prolonged the period of illness and bedrest. For once, I listened to him (well, mostly…) because at this point in my Ironman training I can’t afford to be sidelined for very long at all.
Luckily, I woke up feeling much better this morning and got in a 6.25 mile progression run before heading to work.
Feels so good to sweat again.
Well, feels kind of good to sweat again, my legs felt like lead when I started my run and made me almost want to turn around. That’s when I decided a progression run was my best bet for a quality workout this am. Getting a littlebitfaster each mile seemed much more manageable than sprinting hills or doing tempo miles. And, it was! I started my run at a 9:15 pace and ended close to a 7 minute/mile. Sweatastic.
In good-let’s-not-talk-anymore-about-being-sick news: I made Nuun’s Hood to Coast team!
I am EXTRAORDINARILY excited to run the “mother of all relays” with a group of AWESOME women. Nuun seriously picked some total rockstars for this relay and I am honored to be included in the group. Thank you all for your support on my application! I am 100 percent sure that your comments, tweets and facebook posts are what convinced nuun it would be worth adding a few hundred dollars to the peanut butter and carb budget to have me on the team.
Thanks Nuun! Now it just needs to be August like….now.
