The first weekend after finishing an Ironman feels a little unreal.
Turns out when you don’t have 100 miles of riding and 10 miles of running to do on a Saturday morning, you can get a lot of other stuff done.
Like sleep in. Does sleeping in count as “getting stuff done”? I vote yes. Even if my body seems to have missed the memo that 6am does not really qualify as sleeping in.
You can also eat bagels when you’re not sweating for 9 straight hours.
Big, doughy, drowning in cream cheese bagels. Enjoyed with an Iced Tea to my right and my man on my left with nothing but a leisurely morning before us.
Dining al fresco at 7am? Don’t mind if I do. I don’t remember the last weekend morning when 7am did not involve yards of spandex and a heavy dose of sweat.
Another thing I can’t remember doing on a weekend morning in what feels like an eternity?
Going to the gym with my boyfriend.
You see, while I may have been sweating it up all day every day for the past several weekends, my gym pool is only open for an hour on Saturday mornings before shutting down for swim lessons, and an hour is not really enough time for a quality Ironman training swim.
But an hour is PLENTY of time for a not-so-quality Ironman recovery swim. In fact, half an hour is plenty of time for an Ironman recovery swim.
Or twenty minutes… whatever.
Can you guess which swim cap I chose to wear? Thanks IMLP for distributing gear in my signature colors. I knew I picked you for a reason.
I’m off to continue my streak of getting stuff done before a long evening of getting fun done. I think I’m going to like these post-IM weekends…
Don’t forget to leave any questions about IMLP, my training, my gear, my food, whatever! I’ll be doing a big answer post on Monday. I still can’t believe no one has asked me whether I showered after crossing the finish line. And for those of you under the mistaken impression that my brother actually left his digits in the comments section of my last post, read them out loud.
Or sing them…
