We Came, We Sparkled, We Conquered

So, I’m back from Houston…and I’m not entirely happy about it. Actually, scratch that. I’m positively miserable about it.

I’m currently stuck in a state of limbo between feeling like the entire weekend was an unbelievable dream that didn’t actually happen and being depressed over the fact that I know it happened but it can’t repeat itself for another four years.

I can see a few of you snickering at your desks reading this, in disbelief about my ridiculous attachment to 36 hours of time in Houston. But yes, it was just that amazing. Based on my assessment, I think it’s safe to say I had a better time than Kara, Ryan, Meb, Desi, Shalane and Adbi combined.

While most people around the country are busy discussing who won the trials, and who suffered a heartbreaking 6 second defeat, the buzz on the streets of Houston was all about who won the best cheerleaders for the day.

And I’m happy to announce that the unanimous vote, based on the resounding endorsement from fellow spectators, elite athletes, industry professionals, official photographers and local news stations, went to SarahOUaL and this sweaty girl.

I will do a full recap of the trials later today or first thing tomorrow after I’ve procured all of the photos people took from the weekend and finished assembling my portfolio of Team USA cheerleading outfits to submit to Nike and the US Track and Field Association in hopes of gaining sponsorship to cheerlead the shit out of London 2012.

I’m pretty sure that after they see our work for the Trials, they won’t be able to resist making us official members of Team USA. I mean, if we put these ensembles together in seven short days, just think what we could do with months of preparation.

And I’m looking at you when I say that, my soon-to-be best friends forever.

Cheerio friends, I’ll be back soon with all of the sparkly, patriotic details.

  1. What an incredible experience! Just watching it was great motivation to get out and sweat, so I can’t imagine the “spectator high” you guys got from watching it live.

  2. so fun! i’m so jealous!

  3. Your cheerleading uniforms (can we call them uniforms?) look AMAZING!

  4. Glad you had fun here! Love your outfits. What great weather for the race and such a fun thing to watch!

  5. Dude…your sparkly gear is awesome :) Jealous!

  6. Awesome outfits! But after reading your blog for a few weeks now I wouldn’t expect anything less from you :-). Glad you had an amazing time!

  7. I SERIOUSLY tried to watch for you girls during the trials! I knew you would stand out from the crowd! Congrats on rockin’ outfits!

  8. Your outfits are divine, dahling! :) I’m sure you’ll be contacted with sponsorship any minute now!!!

  9. Hah! Wow that looks like a blast. I am so jealous you got to watch (and also a little jealous of your mad cheerleading skills). Nice pics!

  10. Cute outfits! I love the socks.

  11. Where did you get those socks???!!!! Those outfits are amazing! I need to go back and look for you guys on the dvr, missed you on the first viewing. So jealous of your weekend. And there is a 50% chance we will be in London for the marathon!

    • We got the socks from some random volleyball dealer online and sports authority for the straight up red ones. Quite the find!

  12. LOVE the outfits! I really hope that someday I can see something like that in person, very amazing!

  13. They were truly trial-worthy outfits. Spectacular! I think the Olympic committee should employ you both for London as morale boosters.

  14. You, ladies, looked HOT. Even Dimity and Sarah (SBS), authors of Run Like A Mother book…noticed you and posted your pic on their Facebook page as THE best dressed!

  15. Laura @ Backstage Balance

What awesome outfits! Of course you gals were the best cheerleaders. Can’t wait to hear the whole story!
Side note: when I was watching the trials on tv, right before the men started I could hear a few distinct voices (they must have been right near the starting line media pit). These female voices were obnoxiously (in a good way) cheering ‘yeah men! Go men!!!’ This may not have been you two, but if it was, that’s awesome and I totally heard you!!!

  16. Great outfits of course!! I looked for you on tv, but sadly didn’t see you too!!

  17. I love this!!! I went to watch the race too, and I remember seeing you guys in your outfits and thought it was AMAZING, so much fun!! Glad you had a good time. I’ve vowed to go watch every Olympic Trials race for the rest of my life!! :-)

  18. Wow, you even had a bodyguard? I can’t see why they wouldn’t send you to London. I’ll shoot an email to somebody……… HA

  20. too bad we were in the same city again and missed each other! way to be the best spectator ever

  21. Love the outfits!

  22. 1. Sweet outfits 2. Those cowboy hats look ridiculous on the runners. Ha! 3. Soooo, the USATF Trials happen in EUGENE, OR THIS JUNE AND JULY… Just sayin’ . Perhaps you’ll run Eugene Marathon and never leave? :) But seriously, I was here and volunteered a lot for the Trials in 2008 and it was friggin amazing. I felt like a kid on spring break again. Every night was a dinner/bar outting where you’d see various track athletes and/or their coaches. It was a freaking runner’s paradise. Heaven.

  23. [...] all of the sparkly and arguably obnoxious but mostly just awesome accessories that I bought for Houston are all colors that match those of my football team. I held off on the whole nail painting thing [...]
