To steal a phrase from my good friend Ali, I have been excitingly busy this week. (“Excitingly busy” is code for: nearly too stressed to function at life.) But, good news, things are calming down, I’m still excited, I’m still busy, but I’m not excitingly busy.
Unfortunately, prior to the calming down of the things, a few workouts became casualties of my excitingly busy week. And I’m okay with it. Sometimes, life, and maybe some much-needed pitchers of sangria with friends, need to trump workouts.
But as of this morning, I am back in action.
Game the eff on.
I celebrated with a short elliptical workout (that’s when I make my playlists for spin class) and then taught a killer session of spinning.
I don’t know if the class had fun, but I sure did. At one point, the sweat dripping off my face even shuffled my music. You know you’re getting a good workout when your sweat becomes powerful enough to perform functions normally reserved for a human body.
Here is my David Guetta heavy playlist (no, 12 minutes of DG for a 50 minute class is most definitely not too much), with accompanying spin workout:
Drive By-Train Warm Up
Runaway Baby-Bruno Mars (obsessed with this song ever since watching him rock it at the Grammys) tempo pace in hand position 2, chorus pick ups in hand position 3
Starships-Nicki Minaj Rotate between seated/standing climb with steady/fast in each position x 3
Sweat- Snoop Dogg vs David Guetta (any song with “sweat” in the title is obviously going to become an instant favorite) Standing climb rotating between steady pace/saddle hover/pick ups x 3
Jet Lag- Simple Plan Feat. Natasha Bedingfield Seated sprints with resistance
New Divide-Linkin Park Heavy climb, steady in the saddle, work the chorus standing
Stronger-Kelly Clarkson Standing Climb, pick ups for chorus x3
Mr. Saxobeat-Alexandra Stan 70/80/90 percent effort ride in 1 minute intervals
Crank It Up-David Guetta feat. Akon Seated climb, set steady pace, hold pace as add resistance in 20 second intervals
Talk that Talk-Rihanna/Jay Z Same thing as above but standing
Marry the Night-Lady Gaga Standing climb with 30 second sprints x 3
Your Love is My Drug-Ke$ha fast pace seated flat with 3 20 second sprints with added resistance for chorus
Fight for You-Jason Derulo Climb-seated steady, fast standing pickups for chorus
Without You-Usher & David Guetta Cool Down
As always, let me know if you have any questions about my instructions if you decide to try this on your own (I also do my spin workouts on the elliptical to make the stupid machine a little less tedious.)
Want to do me a solid today? (“Do me a solid” is Michigan frat boy for “do me a favor.” Clearly I’m all about stealing lines from friends this morning.)
Head on over to Fitness Magazine and vote for Sweat Once a Day for Best Running Blog! Or vote for one of my bad ass running friends on the list, because honestly, there are some seriously impressive chicks in the running (see what I did there?) for the title.
Vote early, vote often and thanks for continuing to read about my obsession for all things sweat and running!
Final thought on this lovely Friday: This morning after class, one of my spin-ees asked me if I ever do any workouts other than swim/bike/running. I think this was her way of telling me I need to up my strength training game. What’s the last new-to-you workout that you loved and want to repeat over and over?
Obviously TRX lit my fire, and this weekend I’m taking a Spring Break Body Bootcamp Ride that I expect to thoroughly kick my ass if it’s even half as good as my last trip to the studio.
Happy Friday guys! Get outside, run some miles, sweat it out in the sun! You can bet that’s where I’ll be later.

Voted for you! Good luck, girl!
David Guetta and Bruno Mars are my favorites!!!!!!!! I saw Bruno sing Runaway Baby last year on the Morning Show and have been obsessed with the song ever since!
Happy Friday (oh, and I voted for you!)! :)
I need to steal some of your music and that’s awesome that you were picked by fitness magazine.
The last time you mentioned that Jason Derulo song I added it to my running playlist and I LOVE it!! Of course, I came of age when the original “Africa” song first came out, so it also brings back fond memories of Hammer pants, add-a-bead necklaces and Members Only jackets…
VOTED! I would so take your spin class. The ones at my gym are taught by a very enthusiastic man named Vlad. It’s… interesting. Don’t think I could tolerate that at 6am though…
I’m really digging the strength training lately, and shorter runs to break in my new Brooks lightweight racers. What I really need to be doing is riding evilbike outside because I signed up for a bunch of duathlons and long ride races this spring. And the last outside brick or ride I did outside was… oh… my tri in October. :P
I have developed a healthy obsession for yoga sculpt offered by a bunch of yoga studios here in town (CorePower). As a runner, I always poo-pooed yoga as too boring, but this class has yoga+weight+heat, which equals KILLER WORKOUT.
I’m totally stealing the idea of doing this workout on an elliptical. I’ve been banished to that awful machine while recovering from shin splits. Maybe your workout will help me deal with it a little bit better!
Looks likea pretty fun spin mix. nice job! And I voted for you!
Nice spin mix! I plan to steal the majority of it and add it to my new playlist. I have been slowly acquiring songs over the past couple of weeks. And, I totally voted for you! Good Luck!
rocked the vote. Liked the spin mix! I love it when the spin instructors I take from post music so I can then go download it…
I put Runaway Baby on a new playlist, and it was perfect for an interval run today. I think any song that says “run” in it makes me run faster. I voted for you!
Congrats on your nomination! And I love your spin workout posts.
I could only vote once??? You can always add Sin Wagon – Dixie Chicks.
Is that a glitter girlz headband I spot :)
I just wanted to comment for the first time ever here (but I have read for so long!) that I am super appreciative of your spin playlists at the moment! I am banished to 50:50 running/spin combo nursing a hip injury back to health, and your mixes are really helping ease the pain of missing my long runs! So thank-you!
