My Hot Date

For the last few months, I’ve been testing my rib like crazy.

For a while, it was not performing so well on these tests. Breathing, laughing, sleeping, walking…all fail city. The little bitch couldn’t get anything right.

Just when I thought I was going to have to hold the dunce back a grade, it started to show small signs of improvement. Slowly but surely, I grew increasingly confident that its future is not as dim as I once thought. And lately? Star student territory. Every test I’ve throw at it has come back with a perfect score. Long runs? Passed. With 17 miles. Fast(er) runs? Nailed it. Increasing weekly mileage? Getting better and better by the week: 41, 44, 48, 50+. Upper AND lower body strength training? Done and done. Core strength? With flying colors.


Now that I am totally pain free, off all drugs, and equipped with a solid base of miles, I’m way ready to get down to business and get back to marathon training.

For the last few months, I’ve been crossing my fingers, toes and shoelaces that this would all happen by February 4th.

A day that in and of itself will probably be pretty unremarkable outside of the plethora of Super Bowl hangovers that will stumble into offices across the country. But a day that is 16 weeks out from a date that is always remarkable.


T-minus 6 days until the launch of official training for the first marathon PR attempt of 2013. I’ve never been so excited to spend four straight months working my ass off.

    • Me too! And perhaps I could steal a few ideas off you as the Standard Chartered Kuala Lumpur Marathon is at the end of June.

    I almost signed up for VCM, based largely on your professed love of it (and the fact that my parents live in Fairlee). But instead, that weekend I’m doing my FIRST 50K. Eek!
