Smith Rock Bound
|June 13, 2014||Posted by Emily under Uncategorized|
I’m all packed up and ready to head out on my first Oregon camping adventure at Smith Rock. I am a little concerned that I’m going to wake up with a rattlesnake in my Hokas, but it will be worth it to fall asleep with that big rock thing in the background.
We briefly talked about leaving Eugene at the ass crack of dawn tomorrow morning, but I’m glad we settled on heading over this afternoon. From my experience, pregaming for a race by spending 3 hours in a car is not usually a very fun way to get ready to run.
After Tuesday night’s shitshow of a run, my legs started to feel at least a little bit better and fresher for the rest of the week. On Wednesday morning, Jason and I did a last Pisgah run.
And on Wednesday night, we had our biggest group for the brewery’s run club yet! 12 adults, 2 kids, and 1 pup.
This group is just the best. Everyone keeps going longer and faster and getting more and more excited about running. I big time heart it.
Before I head East today, I have to deal with the first of approximately 12 moving days for the rest of June. We’re packing up all of our office stuff from the garage we’re currently working in and getting it ready for a crew to move it to the new space over the weekend.
It’s going to be really hard to leave our beer box chic “office” for the new digs.
My plan for running today is to take a quick break from moving to do a little shakeout jog along the river, and then we’re hitting the road to set up camp and soak up as much Smith Rock as we can before it’s time to race.
As for the race, my plan is to start out super chill and easy and then pick it up for a fast finish on tired legs. Emphasis on “plan.” I’m 100% certain that this race was a good decision for a long training run, but I’m less certain that my legs are ready to do much more than jog their way through the course. Stay tuned.
Good luck to everyone else running and racing this weekend! Enjoy the heck out of all your sweat, miles and beers!
